Band Name

Instead of using the artist name of the song, Imagine Dragons, I had to create my own original band name to use on the ancillary texts, poster and CD album case. I had a few ideas on the name by using words incorporated from lyrics and also ideas that showed connotations of the indie rock genre.

I created a mood board of words to put together and make a band name from the indie rock genre.

I found the creation of a new band name quite hard because creating something original and professional as well as fitting to the music genre proved difficult. I tried several possibilities before settling for one. I wanted the same effect that 'Imagine Dragons' has when put onto the ancillary texts, reflecting similar connotations from the band itself. Because I found it hard, it did take along time until I was satisfied with one.

I decided to use 'City Kids'; a name that reminded me of an indie rock band as well as looking like it fitted with the ancillary texts. I used the same font as 'Imagine Dragons', found on dafont, as I wanted to keep the similar style used by the original band in my own work.

Photoshop Editing 2

Photo Choice 2

Original

Edited

I edited a second photograph of Jess in the location, choosing another shot seen in the video. The editing I did on this image also included enhancing the levels, colour tones and exposure as well as adding a layer mask to improve and highlight the features just from Jess even more. I really like this image and I think editing it improved the quality a whole lot more.

Edited

I edited my first choice photograph for my ancillary texts on Photoshop to improve the quality of the image. I changed the levels and exposure to brighten the colour tones and overall image and used tools such as the brush tool to darken and lighten certain areas. I also created a layer mask around my main character which meant that I could improve the levels of only her, darkening parts of her jacket and lightening her hair and face, blocking out any shadows created.

Layer Mask - (using brush tool and 'Q')

This editing helped me create an image that had specific connotations and links to my music video. I also got Jess to re-create a shot from the video, helping the audience create the link from the image to the video.

Photographs for Ancillary Texts - Set 1

I took some shots of Jess at the location, where she was in costume including make up. I incorporated positions from the video and story board, showing the link from the video to the ancillary texts. I am happy with the selection of photographs I gathered and I think this set are going to be good when practising drafts and ideas for my ancillary texts.

I also took some location shots, without Jess, to show the scenery and establish the area. These could be used for the ancillary texts as a background to add to the mise-en-scene.

Behind The Scenes & Video Diary

Here are some pictures of myself at the location, ready to film.

After filming, me and Jess shared our thoughts on the filming day and how things turned out.

Shot List

I wrote out the shots that needed to be filmed at the first location, making sure I knew the camera position, timings and what the main character does.
